 Presentation Summary

This video presentation recounts the life of Charles O. Tapella.  He was born in Herrin in 1915 to immigrates from Cuggiono, Italy. He lived through the Great Depression and World War II.  Upon returning from World War II, he took a job at the Norge Washing Machine factory in Herrin that was located within walking distance of his family home.  He compiled an incredible work attendance record of 29 years without a sick day.  His career with the company spaned 37 years and saw him rise from a Box Car Unloader to Steel Control Clerk.  A job that required a great deal of knowledge and skill. During his life he made many sacrifices for his family without bitterness or regret.  Many men of his time endured similar life cicumstances.

This presentation should serve to remind us of how much our families actions and history shapes our lives today.  My Uncle Charlie taught me many life lessons that I find myself using now. I hope that all who view this presentation will consider their heritage not only as a history lesson but as living testiment of who we are today.  My family has shown me the way to live a life of perserverance, unpretenousness, and courage.  I am greatful for all I was taught and shown.
